Location Locate some 455km off the West African Coast, Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 islands and 8 islets divided into two groups: the Windward islands, comprising the islands of Boa Vista Sal, Santa Luzia, Santo Antão, São Nicolau and São Vicente and Leeward islands, comprising the islands of Brava, Fogo, Maio and Santiago. The archipelago is located right in the mid of the Atlantic Ocean between North latitude parallels 15 and 17, in the crossroads of three continents – Africa, Americas and Europa. Language
Portuguese is the official language but “crioulo” is most commonly spoken. Crioulo is the native tongue and is a mix of Portuguese and African dialects from the Coast of Guinea.
Transportation There is a public transportation network ensuring travel among the different locations within the main islands in Cape Verde. There is a good and safe fleet of taxis and mini-buses. Rent-a-car services are also available. Clothing Summer clothing can be worn throughout the year. The climate is tropical dry and temperatures average around 25ºC. June, July and August are the hottest months. Currency and Exchange rate Capeverdean Escudo (CVE) is the local currency. The CVE has a fixed parity with the Euro and exchanges for 1 euro = 110.265 CVE You can exchange your currencies at banks and Exchange Agencies.
